A rained out session at Prospect Farms
Follow my first session fail due to rain at Prospect Farms, in Lawrenceville, Ga. Meet T’Kia and Morris, a real life family who stepped out of the pages of Vogue Magazine! When I saw this family get out of their car and walk toward me, as if they were in Paris’ fashion week, I slightly forgot how to breathe! I had all of my poses written down so we could fly through this session but they made me so nervous, I didn’t know where to begin. I had one hour to beat the rain that was rolling in. I had planned to walk a specific course but due to previous rain, my sitting poses and T’kia not able to walk so far, we stuck to what was close by.
I’m so thankful for tall grass. It photographs so beautifully! I began here, with just her, so her kids could get use to me and wiggle out any nervousness they may have had. I think they were fine, though, because they couldn’t wait for their turn. As soon as we got the introductions out of the way and I explained to them how my sessions work, it began to sprinkle…way before it was suppose to.
In my head, I was so panicked, knowing I needed to rush through this session to get them some great shots but at the same time, I didn’t want them to feel rushed or unloved on. I try to do the best for my clients and work with them as if we were friends in real life. I knew I couldn’t talk to them, as much as I normally do, because my stories have three different headliners and I tend to stop working and give my full attention when I talk. I had to keep photographing them and keep apologizing for not talking. They were both so nice and gracious about the circumstances and reassured me I wasn’t in control of the weather or time.
Luckily, you can’t see the rain drops here but as we paused the session for the quickest outfit change, the clouds were rolling in. The kids enjoyed running around in their formal attire, as I prayed for God to hold the rain off until we were done. I was lucky enough to get a few good shots of this bomb dress!
This was the last shot in the field before we had to run for cover. The drops were coming down harder and quicker. I felt so defeated after this session. I kept telling T’Kia and Morris I was so grateful for their patience during this session and I felt like they wasted great outfits and the energy it took preparing for this session. Once again they were so kind and reassured me I had taken enough for them to be happy and I couldn’t control the weather. I just knew I wanted to serve this family more than I was able to, so I offered a reshoot at another location.
We had a couple of weeks rearranging our schedule but we were able to make the reshoot happen. And this session reinstated my confidence. This time it was just T’Kia, as her family cheered for her on the sidelines. We were able to walk and talk and take our time at each spot we stopped at. My nerves were more settled, as it felt like I was spending time with a friend. This is the benefit of using the same photographer for multiple sessions (even though this was our second time together.) I felt like I was able to give her the attention my clients deserve. If my time with you feels like a money transaction, I’d rather not be your photographer. I enjoy building relationships and meeting your family and hearing your love story, how couples meet, your pregnancy journey, what other siblings think of this baby, etc. When I know more about you, your sessions can become more personalized around who y’all are.
This spot, right here, is my favorite location ever! It’s the best place for all kind of sessions. This rock commands as much attention, as T’Kia and her cute belly. This dress was made for her. There’s no way I could’ve pulled this off during my pregnancy. Imagine Miss. Piggy in this and that would be mua!
This park has a lot of variety during your session. I aim for variety, so your gallery isn’t plain and all images looking the same. Besides, who doesn’t like gravel roads?
Thank you T’Kia for choosing me for your first session and trusting me again for your reshoot. You have been a blessing to my confidence, business and my portfolio. If my readers would like to follow me on social, heres my links
