A Love Story Where God Is The Author

Sterling on The Lake doesn’t disappoint if anyone is looking for a wedding venue. They have all the amenities needed to have a good time. I’ve been counting down the days to this wedding, since I photographed Jodi and Jake’s engagement session. This couple is a photographer’s dream to work with. Jodi was soft spoken, had direct eye contact and gave me great conversation throughout our engagement session. Jake was very polite, following Jodi’s every move. They held hands, laughed a lot and enjoyed filling me in on the details of how they met.

Jodi and Jake first met at church, in 1998. Jodi was a senior in high school and Jake was an intern for the youth group. They weren’t friends but did connect on social media at some point. Fast forward to 2021, Jake was on his way home from a stressful work week. He said he normally listened to a certain radio station but for some reason, he tuned into worship music. He told me the music helped clear his mind and helped him loosen up a bit. At one point, he had a flashback to a song Jodi sang in church back in the day. Jake said he debated for a while whether he should message her and ask about the song but decided against it because he didn’t want to bother her. He thought at the most, she’d give a short reply and he didn’t want to feel as if he was bothering her. So he let it go and within a few days, decided to message her anyway. To his surprise, she did reply with a lengthy message attached. A week after she replied, they met for lunch and almost to the day of that lunch, they were getting married.

Tell me this isn’t God at work!

Their ceremony was emotional with tears, smiles and laughs. They are a blended family with so much love to share with each other. Jake has older teenage children who were very attentive to Jodi’s younger son. They all appeared to be respectful and kind to each other, holding hands and dancing with each other the entire reception.
